While presumptive guilt in accusations of male-on-female rape is wrestled over by activists and lawmakers, another point is missed, and that’s the point that the construct within western society of the rule of law based in the principle of justice is no longer operative in reality. The rule of law still operates of course, but it has become the rule of private law, where criminal and civil laws are applied differentially depending on social class.

As to contempt for traditional masculinity, I have none. I don’t even know that anyone can tell me what it means (though many try). I’ll save my contempt for stupidity and chosen blindness. Let the “patriarch’s” of the word have their folly. It matters not to me. I will be busy surviving as they march themselves and their unfortunate progeny into the grinding halls of family justice. I think this presents a unique opportunity. First, it is good to see the people of SPSMM reach outside their insulated academic enclave and take their ideology into forums where disparate views are allowed and encouraged. I also note that while I do not agree with some of the material presented in The Good Men Project Magazine, I am encouraged that its management is clearly not interested in an editorial orthodoxy and is willing to showcase a badly needed discussion directly in view of the public.
If we want to reengineer men to be less violent, then perhaps their role as congenitally selected bodyguards is the first thing that needs to come into question. Perhaps we should confront men about their universally common knee jerk reaction to protect others in distress, even if violence is required. And perhaps we should confront women for selecting men with such capabilities.
There must be many families who burn their brides for dowry as a routine practice otherwise, why would there be so many news reports about dowry deaths? As they say, there cannot be smoke without a fire. Right?
