Men’s Rights Cross Canada Campaign: April 4-8, 2014

Starting this weekend at least nine Canadian cities, including Halifax, Hamilton, Burlington, Toronto, Windsor, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and possibly others will be experiencing a nationwide postering campaign carrying an anti-Misandrist message, and holding up a mirror to society’s double-standards in law and social attitudes about men vs. women. Posters will be appearing all over Canada, placed by volunteers acting on their own initiative under a simple premise: If not us, who? If not now, when?

The posters are a parody of the hateful, misandrist international campaign to ask men to stop violence against women – never mind that men are the majority of victims of violence and never mind that when it comes to Domestic Violence all the available science shows that women are as violent if not more violent than men are. Nevertheless, self-hating men and man-hating women have joined in an international campaign to demand that men take responsibility for violence, and violence against women only. By doing so these bigots demonize the male half of the human race and infantalize the female half.

Although these posters are a parody, they also carry a serious message, for the problems they point to are real. So a simple question comes: is what’s good for the gander also for the goose? If we’re going to hold all men responsible for terrible things done by some men, are we going to hold all women responsible for the terrible things done by some women? And should the law treat everybody the same or are some people “equal-er” than others? And if these posters are somehow tasteless and obscene, why aren’t the “Don’t be THAT guy” posters not also tasteless and obscene?

Participating organizations across Canada this weekend include Men’s Rights Edmonton, Men’s Rights Calgary, Men’s Rights Halifax, Community Organized Compassion and Kindness, Men’s Rights Saskatoon, and others.

The following is a sample image of the posters that will be in use:

We’re proud to say the particular dumpster image in use in many of these posters first appeared in the A Voice for Men Meme group on Facebook, and was inspired by many of the similar posters we encourage people to use on our poster page. A Voice for Men fully supports this effort by our brothers and sisters in Canada. We encourage everyone to use posters like this in peaceful, lawful manner. Everyone who wants to participate in confronting misandry should do so.

Indeed, while we especially commend Canadian men’s activists, we hope to see this message  spread across the United States and around the world, wherever misandrist messages about “toxic” or “hegemonic” masculinity and “patriarchy” are bandied about by hateful gender ideologues, and wherever you see a message telling you that men should stop violence against women instead of telling people to stop violence against each other.

So by the way, while this is a coordinated Canadian effort this weekend, if you’re outside Canada there’s no reason you can’t go forth and do the same right now in solidarity–wherever you are!

Go forth and FTSU people. Today, Canada. Tomorrow, the world!

Editorial Update: Reports and photos and videos are coming in to the Men’s Rights Canada page. We expect more to come in the next few days as activists get their photos and videos in. Also, word is that they’re declaring a Bonus Round for Monday and Tuesdays in some bonus cities!
