Jeff McArthur of AM640 claims most sexual crimes committed by males

Daddy Daycare?  Not in Canada.  A number of newspapers and radio show hosts spoke about an interesting story where a man, Guillaume Christen, experienced bigotry and androphobia as clients turned away from his daycare business in Quebec, Canada.  Why?  Simply because he is a male, fully qualified to run a daycare.

I caught Jeff McArthur, a talk show host on AM640 in Toronto interview Guillaume Christen.  It was a good interview up to the point when Jeff made this statement at 4:20.

“Sadly that we do have child predators, child sex offences in this country[Canada]. The majority if not all of them are male, male based, the convictions here….”

You can listen to the entire interview here.

I commented on the AM640 Facebook page which led to his response as follows.  Please send Jeff McArthur your view about him alleging that majority if not all child predators and child sex offenders are males in Canada.  jeff.mcarthur.169@facebook.com

  • Attila Vinczer Jeff McArthur you need to publicly apologize for your offensively slanderous remark made on the radio about males. Yesterday, within the here above interview, you stated, “Sadly that we do have child predators, child sex offences in this country. The majority if not all of them are male, male based, the convictions here….” Where did you get this information? You are so off base, so incredibly wrong!

This statement is grossly wrong and inconsistent with facts, putting men and boys in negative light and in fact is the reason why males have the ill negative stigma attached to them that has all males perceived as potential predators, rapists, child molesters, sex offenders who harm women and children. Statements like this are a big part of the problem and the reason why males are struggling in society, such as Guillaume Christen who you interviewed.

I respectfully ask that you do some research, get the facts and report on the facts as they are. Please do not purport fallacious hearsay as fact.
  • Jeff McArthur Attila Vinczer you do realize you are doing exactly what you are accusing me of, right? If you have data that shows the majority of charged and convicted child sex offenders in this country are in fact women I’d be happy to make the correction.
  • Attila Vinczer Jeff McArthur, I am not merely accusing you of slander, you are culpable thereof. Please do explain how I am doing exactly the same as what you did? I am not a sophisticated man and simply do not understand how you came to your conclusion Jeff.

The statement you have made is wrong and you will never find data to support your statement about males. I pointed out an error you made, perhaps inadvertently. An error that adds to the negative stigma attached to males. I would and have never made a statement as you did, about men or women, because I know there is no data to support it.

Rather than addressing the issue at hand, you point your finger at me. The onus is on you to provide evidence supporting your statement that, “Sadly that we do have child predators, child sex offences in this country. The majority if not all of them are male, male based, the convictions here….” If you can not provide evidence to support your statement, then you ought to apologize for slandering every male in Canada. I hope you realize and understand the mistake you have made.
  • Dean Esmay Jeff’s actually right that the majority of charged and convicted sex offenders are male. Where he’s wrong is in assuming this means sexual predation is a mostly-male problem. The data overwhelmingly shows that this is not true; the authorities just rarely investigate or even take seriously reports of female sex predation. References for this right out of Canadian as well as other sources are readily available if Jeff is interested.
  • Attila Vinczer I agree with you Dean, but Jeff’s comment on the radio did not revolve around the numbers of men being charged and convicted. He clearly asserted that the majority of child predators, child sex offences in Canada are male based and that is patently wrong and slanderous.
  • Jeff McArthur Attila Vinczer according to Stats Can as of 2011 98 percent of those charged with level 1 sexual assault, child porn or sexual violations against children were male. So, my comments are neither wrong or slanderous. Furthermore, your incorrect argument obscures from what’s really at debate here. That this man is unable to pursue his goals or livelihood because of an unfair stereotype. Which many callers admitted they subscribed to. I would encourage you to listen to the full discussion to gain some insight and perspective.
  • Dean Esmay Jeff, you keep using the word “charged.” This seems rather odd when Attila’s calling upon you to look at the actual victimization rates, and who victims report to be their predators.

Your listeners would, I suggest, be well-served if you told them the truth: that the research shows clearly that Canadian government officials are by and large ignoring most female sex predators.

References for this available upon request. Interested?
  • Attila Vinczer I have listened to your piece live on air and a number of times at home in its entirety. Had you stated that the majority of those charged with level 1 sexual assault, child porn or sexual violations against children were male, my comment to you would have been quite different. You still have provided NO proof that,

“Sadly that we do have child predators, child sex offences in this country. The majority if not all of them are male, male based, the convictions here….”

That statement makes it appear there are no female child predators or child sex offenders which is as untrue as your statement intimating that only males are child predators and child sex offenders.

I agree with you and it is my argument that, as you say, “That this man is unable to pursue his goals or livelihood because of an unfair stereotype.” What you have failed to either acknowledge or understand is that you are attributing to that stereotype by making comments on air as you did.

I would strongly encourage you to attend the Toronto Domestic Violence Symposium scheduled for late May, 2014 that I am hosting by the Canadian Maltese Charitable Service Trust. We will have an array of MDs and Professors dilating on these matters and the very serious ill stigma attached to males that they are responsible for DV, rape, and sexual crimes. The keynote speaker will be Prof. Marty Fiebert. We will also have people such as Dr. Miles GrothErin Pizzey, and many others presenting and debunking the stereotype that males are branded with.

As an advocate for the rights of children and families, it is clear to me that women are not held to the same account when committing the exact same crime. It is also clear to me that decades of propaganda that men are evil while women are angels attitude has had the effect of men being vexatiously and maliciously pursued with many innocent men going to jail for crimes they did not commit. Moreover, these men are often charged, convicted and sentenced without any evidence and based on hearsay alone. William Mullins-Johnson is an excellent example of that abuse. False rape, DV and sexual assault by women is at an epidemic level. just ask people like Monti Hannona.

I will take your comment to [be] debated and see what response will come of it.
