Southern Poverty Law Center removed A Voice for Men as a hate group in 2022

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) quietly removed A Voice for Men as an active hate group in the United States in 2022. Their justification? That it’s being run “out of Australia” by me. Here it is in their own words:

The wording is interesting:

A Voice for Men is no longer listed as an active hate group in the United States because it is now being operated out of Australia by Robert Brockway.

The word active and the phrase in the United States seem to have been quietly slipped in. Note how they are absent from the original announcement that A Voice for Men had been added as a hate group:

When I first saw this I suspected that they had used the change in management as an excuse to remove A Voice for Men from their list of hate groups because they realised it should never have been there in the first place. But for one thing…

XY Crew was added as a hate group at the same time that A Voice for Men was removed. While the arguments for adding A Voice for Men are specious, it seems difficult to imagine there are any arguments for adding XY Crew. SPLC, you’ve done it again.

I want to make it very clear to SPLC that we’re as focused on issues facing men and boys in the United States as we ever were. A Voice for Men speaks to men around the world.

Given that SPLC no longer considers A Voice for Men to be a hate group we’re going to appeal bans on Facebook and elsewhere. Let’s have some fun.

Unlike the person in the cover image SPLC has no shortage of funds. For the financial year ending on 31 October 2021 SPLC reported assets of more than $801 million including nearly $770 million in investments. They also reported income of nearly $133 million for the same financial year. Pretty well to do for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation with poverty in the name. You can read about it yourself on their IRS Form 990.
