Why we don’t need VAWA

Two weeks ago Melanie Reyes “was arrested for aggravated domestic battery after her boyfriend said she struck him with a baseball bat.” If Melanie Reyes had been a man, she may have still been in jail. If Melanie Reyes had been a man, she may have had a restraining order issued against her. If Melanie Reyes had been a man, she most likely would not have been permitted anywhere near her 6-month old son unsupervised.

If Melanie Reyes had been a man, her 6-month old son might still be alive.

But Melanie Reyes is a woman so the press reports the alleged domestic violence incident as though it may not have happened. But Melanie Reyes is a woman so she was let out of jail (no bail mentioned). But Melanie Reyes is a woman so she was permitted to retain custody of her son. But Melanie Reyes is a woman so she was allowed to take a handgun and shoot her 6-month old son.

Melanie Reyes is a woman and her son is dead. Melanie Reyes is a woman so her son wasn’t protected by the system because VAWA doesn’t protect men and children from violent women.

Melanie Reyes is a woman, her son is dead, and Joe Biden is largely responsible because he and the Democratic Party refuse to recognize that women can and do commit acts of senseless violence and that men are worthy of protection from that violence. Melanie Reyes is a woman, her son is dead, and hopefully so is VAWA.
