Filler sentenced to 21 days

Vladek Filler has been sentenced to 21 days in jail on the conviction of assaulting his wife, Ligia Filler. The evidence in the case was a bruise on Mrs. Filler’s arm that was not there at the time of the complaint, but mysteriously “appeared” four days later.

Filler is appealing the conviction and has been allowed to remain free pending the appeal.

The Bangor Daily News reports (and we use that word loosely) that prosecutor Paul Cavanaugh was seeking 60-90 days in jail at the time of the sentencing. This is a significant change from what inside sources reported to AVfM, which was that the prosecution was seeking the full sentence possible of one year in prison.

It appears that something caused Cavenaugh to back off the harsher recommendation and go for something less.

No probation was ordered so whatever sentence Filler ultimately receives, if any, should complete his connection to this case.

We will post a notice here when the new trial date is set.
