Dr. Jerome S. Pittman of Culver City, CA “Known Genital Mutilator”

mommy protect me bestAre you or anyone you know being forced to undergo genital mutilation or “circumcision?” Are your parents making you do this for religious reasons or “your own good” but you don’t want to go through with it? Want to tell them “hands off?”

Enter “Circumcision for All Ages” from Dr. Jerome S. Pittman who has been placed on the “Known Genital Mutilators” directory at neonatalcutting.org.

From his website gentlecircumcision.com:

Circumcision for All Ages

Gentle Circumcision is California’s only out-patient medical specialty practice exclusively devoted to performing circumcisions for all age groups. We schedule over 4000 cases annually and are proud to be California’s premier referral source for over 750 medical offices and facilities, including UCLA Healthcare, Cedars-Sinai, and many regional hospital medical centers.

Gentle Circumcision understands that considering circumcision for yourself, your baby, or child can be a stressful decision. That’s why we take the extra care to provide a warm and calm environment for you and your family. With circumcision specialists having more than 20 years of specialized circumcision experience, you can rest assured you or your child are in expert hands.”

“Gentle” circumcision, my ass.

Here in civilized society we generally don’t force surgery on people that don’t want it, so if you can read this, you can refuse unwanted surgery. Even toddlers should be told – as we do about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ touching – that anyone who tries to ‘bad’ touch or comes at them with a scalpel should be kicked in the crotch and the police called. That is a sexual assault of a minor who cannot consent to sex or elective surgery.

It’s very telling that under “FAQ – Teenage/Adult Circumcision” we see:

Will my insurance cover the costs?
No. Most insurance consider adult circumcision a cosmetic procedure and therefore will
not reimburse.

So, a cosmetic procedure that is forced on infants simply because they:

  • can’t speak up and say “No”
  • can’t fight off the attacking doctors and nurses
  • can’t hire a lawyer to sue
  • can’t express his right to bodily integrity

But you as a thinking person with the human and civil right to bodily integrity and protection from assault with a scalpel can and should fight back against any such assault.

Under “Newborn” we read:

Circumcision Technique
The Plastibell circumcision device is a clear, lightweight plastic in the shape of a bell with an attached handle (see photograph). It comes in various sizes to fit newborns, infants, and toddlers. The bell portion is designed to cover the glans while the foreskin is pulled over it and secured with a string (ligature). The ligature sits in a groove at the top of the bell so that when tied, the ligature will compress the excess foreskin, cutting off its circulation. The unwanted foreskin can now be removed by cutting around the bell while it protects the glans from injury. The key is choosing the correct size device since too large a bell will cause excessive tension on the remaining foreskin and pull the bell over the glans onto the penile shaft. On the other hand, if the bell size chosen is too small, an inadequate amount of foreskin could be removed and/or excessive pressure on the glans could result in a visible deformity. An experienced provider will chose the appropriate size device and perform the procedure in 5-10 minutes. Healing time is approximately 10-14 days.

The Plastibell Device must be the correct size, or serious risks are possible, including a lifetime of pain, further surgeries, and death. That’s what happened to Jayvas Carson, who was circumcised with the wrong size Plastibell, had massive bleeding, and ultimately died. How many babies die of this is not known as it isn’t blamed on circumcision, but the complication. But it happened ultimately because of the circumcision.

Under “FAQs for Adults / Teenagers:”

How can the circumcision procedure be painless?
This can be done by managing pain before it occurs. You are given an oral anti-anxiety medicine to allow muscle relaxation and remove any nervousness present before your surgery. The specialist then injects a local anesthetic designed to block pain sensation to the area. Once the anesthetic is effective, your circumcision begins and lasts
approximately 30 minutes. The anesthetic’s effect lasts 2-6 hours. BEFORE its wears
off, you are given a prescribed pain reliever. The remaining healing time is pain-free.

Do I need to be put to sleep?
Circumcision does not require general (sleep) anesthesia. The procedure has been
performed for decades in countries around the world (including the U.S. military) using
local anesthesia. It involves injecting an anesthetic medication around a nerve to control
pain in a specific area of the body. It is commonly used in dental offices to eliminate
pain during dental procedures. Local anesthetics are also used with, or without, a
sedative medication for pain control during circumcision. They work by blocking the
pain pathways that connect the spinal cord to the brain. For this reason, pain sensation to
the penis after local anesthesia is not recognized. It is a safe and effective option for
those who do not desire general (sleep) anesthesia.

Say you’re a teenager and somehow you got to this place where you’ll have a “circumcision,” probably because:

  • your parents are forcing you
  • girlfriend or peer pressure
  • you believe it’s beneficial

Before the procedure the doctor will give you “an oral anti-anxiety medicine to allow muscle relaxation and remove any nervousness.” I could see how this is needed for the young ones who don’t buy that the doctor’s ‘fixing something’ that seems fine to him, plus the fear of ‘bad’ touching that is now forced on him.

But you can do research that shows the foreskin has important functions as part of the penis, and that circumcision is unneeded and has many risks and complications, including death.

No one can force you to have surgery against your will, and as a matter of fact, circumcision of unconsenting infants is most likely illegal, but obviously it’s very easy to trample the civil rights of an infant.

And if you think you’ll be odd if you stay intact, you’ll be glad to know that most of the world’s men are intact and that circumcision of male and female infants is going the way of slavery, lobotomy, and blood-letting.

Under “What’s New in Pain Management” we see:

At our practice, pain control is our first priority for all patients. According to the American Academy of
Pediatrics’ guidelines on circumcision, pain relief “is safe and effective in reducing the procedural pain
associated with newborn circumcision; thus, adequate analgesia (pain relieving medications) should be
provided whenever newborn circumcision is performed.

The AAP quote above about “safe” pain relief for circumcision is old news. The doctor should know that the latest findings of the AAP discourage routine surgery such as circumcision in infancy due to injury to an immature nervous system.

Brought my 2 boys (11 and 13) to be circumcised earlier this month. The day of the circumcision, you need to buy the medicines from the pharmacy on the ground floor before you go to the doctor’s office. This way you go straight home after the procedure since your baby/kid will be cranky and groggy. Procedure went well. My boys had a little pain but we were able to manage it by following the after care plan given to us. They did not scream like what that other mom mentioned in earlier reviews. Dr. Pitman is great. Certainly knows what he is doing. Staff (Cindy, Anais, Claudia & Jessie) are all knowledgeable and explained everything that will happen during the procedure as well as aftercare treatment. It amazed me how quick the recovery was for my boys. If you want your child to be circumcised, this is the place to go.

I hope this review can help other moms and dads out there. My first visit to the office with my baby was draining, not because of the office, but because my baby boy was too chubby down there to have the procedure done. We had to wait until after he turned one. In my mind at that moment I decided he would never get it done because it will be to traumatic. After my husband explained to me how embarrassing it will be for him in school to look so different, when he meets a girl, and just the personal hygiene, we decided it was best to have it done. So when he was almost 2 years old we took him it. The doctor explained the procedure and one nurse who I will never forget… Cindy. She is an angel, she made my little guy feel so safe when they took him from us. And when it was done she stayed in the room with us to explain after care and to just calm him down. The drive home was horrible,he was scared, a little loopy from the medicine, and just uncomfortable. When we made it home he was back to his happy self, playing outside with his brothers and sister. I know now in my heart we made the right decision, his parts look like the rest of the boys in the family. And with NO complications what can I be mad at.

This place is incredible. The doctor has the absolute greatest bedside manner. He makes you feel extremely comfortable when having to leave your baby with him. My baby had his circumcision when he was born and they botched it. In any case, Dr. Pittman performed a revision surgery and had to clean up someone else’s mess. He walks you through the whole process. He informs you of pros and cons. Full transparency. He did a fantastic job!! And the girls who work there are all wonderful, friendly, sweet and caring. As hard as it is to leave your baby, it is made easier knowing he is such great hands. I can see why they call this place “Gentle” Circumcision. Everyone has a calm and gentle demeanor. I highly recommend this place!! I wish I would have come here first. Their prices are unbeatable, their service unmatched, and their office is beautiful.

We went to see Dr. Pittman for a consultation. I did not want to circumcise our son and my husband was on the fence. He fit us in the same week i called. Spent all the time we needed. Performed a physical exam on our son to weed out the possibility that there was any possible medical abnormality necessitating a circumcision and answered a whole list of questions we had for him. We decided not to circumcise our son but if we ever do we will go to him. I saw a 17 year old boy walk out of his office showing no signs of pain after having just been circumcised. Hopefully my son will never want or need to be circumcised but if he does we know there is someone we can trust to perform the procedure. He was kind and knowledgeable.

If those two boys in the first case had done research or read this article, they would have known their rights and could have refused and/or if needed, kicked Dr. Pittman in the crotch.

Just imagine if these comments were about girls having their genitals mutilated – it would be horrific, just as these are for boys. What have we come to when “the girls who work there are all wonderful, friendly, sweet and caring” when what they help do is infant genital mutilation?

Glad to see Mary was smart enough to ask the doctor if “there was any possible medical abnormality necessitating a circumcision” to which the answer was NO.

Under “Travel” we read:

Visiting From Out of State…
Our fly-in program makes it possible for men of all ages and from across the globe to come into our beautiful Culver City outpatient facility to receive their circumcision procedures.

The pediatric and adult circumcisions performed at Gentle Circumcision are conducted by highly experienced physicians who are devoted to making this a positive experience for all.

While the idea of a fly-in program may seem like a foreign concept to many, the result is an expert process conducted in a facility that ONLY specializes in one area of medical practice – for all ages.

With more than 20 years of experience in the field of male circumcision and a caseload in excess of 4,000 procedures every year, we have the experience to handle infants, boys and men of all ages.

4,000 circumcisions per year is about 12 per day and I’m sure 100% percent of those infant boys did not consent to this permanent disfigurement. Who knows how many died from complications, how many had a lifetime of discomfort and denial of a normal sex life with an intact penis. Why do we allow, even encourage this barbarism on boys yet recognize the horror when done to girls? Thankfully, many are coming to their senses and refusing to cut their baby boy, and there are many organizations spreading the “intactivism” word.

So, people of all ages and sexes, if anyone wants to touch your junk without permission (especially if holding a scalpel):

  • run away
  • kick he/she in the crotch
  • call police

Since Dr. Pittman’s website has incomplete information about the risks of circumcision, you can read that here at neonatalcutting.org.
